I’ve had my Pixel 8 Pro for about a year now, but prior to that I had a Pixel 6 and didn’t have this issue. But what I’ve been noticing is that I will have no notifications and then I go and unlock my phone to use it and suddenly I get a notification for an email or some other app and often it was something I had been waiting for but it only showed up when I went to check.
This had honestly been driving me a little bonkers. A good example of it happening would be when I’d go to use my phone to pay for something with Google Wallet and as soon as I went to unlock and pay I’d get a Signal notification I’d have to swipe away just to finish my transaction, then I’d have to remember to go back and read it once I was out of the store.
Initially I thought this was just a coincidence, but over time I realized this was a common occurrence and started to question if it was something wrong with my phone. And of course I’d always notice it when I was out and about and would forget about it by the time I got home.
Today I finally had the time to dig into it and figure out the cause of the solution. It turns out, it was a configuration / settings issue the whole time. So it’s pretty quick and easy to fix. All you have to do is go to your Settings screen, then Notifications, then Notifications on Lock Screen and change it to the first option of “Show conversations, default and silent” as it is likely on the middle option which is causing your problem.

And there you have it! Once you’ve done that you can back out of that screen and go back to enjoying life and not missing all of your notifications because your phone decided they were “silent conversations” or whatever that means…
